Zechariah 1:20

Craftsmen —> God’s plan to overthrow the wicked empires.

Symbolic language is probably necessary here for reasons of poitical safety… too explicit a condemnation of Persia, for instance, would endanger the establishment of which Z. was apparently a member.

  1. WHERE IS THE BIBLE VERSE OF OVERTHROWING THE WICKED

  2. Good question. My comment above dealt with symbolic language, and the actual references to overthrowing the wicked are few. Doing a ( quick search, I found three from the book of Proverbs:

    Proverbs 12:7
The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.

    Proverbs 13:6
Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

    Proverbs 14:11
The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.

And, I found this interesting contrast between the actions of righteous persons and the prerogative of God in this regard:

    Proverbs 21:12
The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked: but God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness.

In all cases the wicked are overthrown either by themselves and their own ways, or by a sovereign act of God; never by the righteous.
